My father was very hungry for lunch. They gave him scrambled eggs and baked beans, which he loves. He gobbled up some baked beans and choked on them. I suspect he chokes on beans with skins - I know he can't deal with green beans or kidney beans.
I'd brought him extra food that I saw they had in the kitchen: gefilte fish and carrots, both of which he enjoys. But he choked so badly that he had to stop eating - I think it felt like the beans were lodged in his throat.
My father died peacefully on February 6, 2012. I had arrived a few hours before he died, so I had time to sit by him and talk and even moisten his lips with the long-promised scotch I had with me. I don't know if he heard me, but he smacked his lips from the scotch, My father had Alzheimer's and had donated his brain to the Alzheimer's study he'd been part of at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. I'll continue to post for a while.
